teamLab SuperNature is an extremely complex, three-dimensional interactive space with varying elevations that spans 5,000 square meters and is comprised of enormous 8-meter-tall works by art collective teamLab. It is a “body immersive” art space centered around a group of artworks that aim to explore new perceptions of the world and the continuity between humans and nature.

People immerse their bodies in massive art with others, influencing and becoming one with the art. Through the experience of transcending the boundaries between the body and the artwork, people redefine their perception of the boundaries between the self and the world, and thereby recognize the continuity between humans and the world. 

Immerse the body in a complex, three-dimensional world, create a world with others, and become one with that world.

Floating Flower Garden: Flowers and I are of the Same Root, the Garden and I are One

This floating flower garden consists of a three-dimensional mass of flowers.The artwork space is completely filled with flowers, but as the flowers float up above people, open spaces are created. Because of this, people are able to freely wander around the flower mass space. If you encounter other people within the artwork, your space will connect with theirs and become one single space.
Zen gardens are said to have been created as a place for groups of Zen priests to carry out training in order to become one with nature. There is a Zen kōan (a question or story that is part of Zen priests’ theological training) called “Nansen’s Flower”. Someone asked the monk Nansen about the famous saying, “Heaven and I are of the same root. All things and I are of the same substance”, remarking on how wonderful it was. Nansen, pointing to a flower in the garden, said, “People these days see this flower as if they were in a dream”.In this work, people immerse themselves in flowers, becoming one with the garden. When someone continues to look at a flower closely, the flower looks back. At that moment, they become one with the flower and may truly see flowers for the first time.
The flowers in this artwork are orchids. Most orchids are able to grow without soil by absorbing water from the air. The flowers in this artwork are alive, growing, and blooming with each passing day. It could be said that they are growing in mid-air. Although flowering plants were the last of the plant species to appear on earth, at least 220,000 of the 250,000 terrestrial plant species are flowering plants. Evolution has favored diversity, and it can be said that flowers were born to produce diversity. Orchids were flowering plants that most enjoyed diversity, and it is said that approximately 10% of all plant species belong to the orchid family. Because of their diversity, many orchids evolved to become most adapted to live on rocks and trees instead of land with soil where other plants grew abundantly. In an area without soil, in other words, traditionally a least favorable environment for plants, orchids evolved to be most adapted for a world without competition. They are thought to have appeared at a later stage of evolution compared to other plants, and continue to diversify to this day, making us wonder what evolution chose to favor.
Orchids are known to have co-evolved with certain pollen-carrying insects. The flowers’ aromas become stronger at the time of day when the partner insects are active. Because of this, the scent of the artwork space changes each moment between morning, day, evening, and night. Since many of the orchids in this work are partnered with nocturnal insects, the tightly-packed orchids produce a powerful fragrance at night.

The Infinite Crystal Universe

Pointillism uses an accumulation of distinct dots of color to create a picture. Here, light points are used to create three-dimensional objects. The light sculpture extends infinitely in all directions. People use their smartphones to select stars to throw into The Infinite Crystal Universe. These stars are reborn in three dimensions, creating the artwork. The presence of people and their location within the work affect these three-dimensional stars, which in turn influence and are influenced by other stars in the space.
This artwork is forever evolving, changing from moment to moment due to the people in the space.

Valley of Flowers and People: Lost, Immersed and Reborn

The seasons change gradually across the installation space.A seasonal year of flowers blossom according to the changing seasons, and the place where they grow gradually moves.
The flowers bud, grow, and blossom before their petals begin to wither and eventually fade away. The cycle of growth and decay repeats itself in perpetuity. If a person stays still, the flowers surrounding them grow and bloom more abundantly. If viewers touch or step on the flowers, they shed their petals, wither, and die all at once.
The artwork is not a pre-recorded image that is played back: it is created by a computer program that continuously renders the work in real time. The interaction between people and the installation causes continuous change in the artwork: previous visual states can never be replicated, and will never reoccur. The picture at this moment can never be seen again.
In spring in the Kunisaki Peninsula, there are many cherry blossoms in the mountains and canola blossoms at their base. This experience of nature caused teamLab to wonder how many of these flowers were planted by people and how many were native to the environment. It is a place of great serenity and contentment, but the expansive body of flowers is an ecosystem influenced by human intervention, and the boundary between the work of nature and the work of humans is unclear. Rather than nature and humans being in conflict, a healthy ecosystem is one that includes people. In the past, people understood that they could not grasp nature in its entirety, and that it is not possible to control nature. People lived more closely aligned to the rules of nature that created a comfortable natural environment. We believe that these valleys hold faint traces of this premodern relationship with nature that once existed, and we hope to explore a form of human intervention based on the premise that nature cannot be controlled.

Expanding Three-Dimensional Existence in Transforming Space - Flattening 3 Colors and 9 Blurred Colors, Free Floating

The space is filled with spheres of free floating light. People move through the spheres and enter the space. When people move through or strike them, the spheres change color, and that color resonates out. The spheres around that sphere change color tone and in turn resonate out the color in three-dimensions to nearby spheres.
When the spheres change color, the space itself shifts between a collection of spheres forming a three-dimensional space and a flat color wall.
Even if each sphere moves freely on its own, the behavior of light is maintained across the whole of the space (a three-dimensional image in which one sphere is regarded as one dot). Therefore, the light behaves as a group and can be thought of as one three-dimensional existing space. At this time, the light spreads spherically around the impacted sphere.
Since each sphere is free floating within the collection of sphere elements that make up the three-dimensional space, people recognize it as existing three-dimensionally and part the spheres entering into the three-dimensional existing space.
The shape of the space is determined by the collection of floating spheres and changes according to people's actions (pushing or colliding). Depending on the degree of entanglement of the spheres, and wind and pressure changes, the shape of the space itself will change, empty spaces becoming high density, and spheres rising to the ceiling all at once.
Before the modern era in Japan, Kasane no Irome were seasonal colors created in silk. The colors were the result of a combination of front and back colors, (silk at the time was so thin that the liner was transparent, creating complex colors), overlapping color gradations, complex weave colors, and combinations of warp and weft. Since the sphere colors are produced by light, it has been possible to create nine blurred colors, (light in water, sunlight on water plants, morning glow, morning sky, sky at twilight,  peach, plum, iris, spring maple), as well as 3 colors that flatten the space (blue, red, and green), producing a total of twelve colors.

What a Loving, and Beautiful World

When people touch the characters, the worlds that the characters embody will appear, influencing one another to create a single world.
The elements born from the characters influence one another through their positions in the space, their powers, relationship to each other, as well as their physical influences, to create a single world. For example, if the wind blows, it will affect the rain, snow, and flowers. Birds will alight in trees, and butterflies will gather around flowers. Just as in nature, the scenery at this moment can never be seen again.

Proliferating Immense Life - A Whole Year per Year

In the same flow of time as in the real world, flowers change with the seasons.Flowers repeat the cycle of birth and death, proliferation and extinction, changing along with the seasons. When people touch the flowers, they fall and die. 
The world of the artwork is flattened through teamLab's concept of Ultrasubjective Space. Unlike when flattening by lenses or perspective, the viewer's viewpoint is not fixed, and the viewer's body is free to move. The wall on which the world of the work is depicted does not become a boundary between the people and the work; the flowers blur the boundary between the walls, and the world of the work is continuous with the space where the people's bodies are located.

Continuous Life and Death at the Crossover of Eternity

Flowers continue to blossom and die in an eternal cycle, the blooms changing with the passage of time in nearby artworks. When people touch the flowers, their petals scatter. But if people hold their hands still against the work, more flowers will be born than usual.
The world of the artwork becomes brighter with the sunrise where it is located, and it becomes darker as the sun sets. 
The time of the repeating life and death of the flowers, the time of the nearby artwork worlds, and the time of the city where the work is located, all intersect and overlap whilst remaining connected. In the artwork space different times and spaces overlap.
The artwork is not a pre-recorded image that is played back; it is created by a computer program that continuously renders the work in real time. Animals that are born in the Valley of Flowers and People are made of the flowers of the valley.As the seasonal flowers slowly change, they bloom and die in an eternal cycle, continuously  forming the shapes of animals.When people touch the animals, the flower petals scatter. If people continue to touch the animals, all of the flowers will scatter, and the animals will die and fade away.

Autonomous Abstraction, Continuous Phenomena from the Universe to the Self

Autonomous abstraction.The dots of light blink and change color in cycles unique to each dot. A spontaneous order phenomenon occurs between dots that are close to each other, and their hues and the rhythm at which they blink gradually synchronize. When people touch them, the rhythm of the blinking hues change and are randomized, but the dots close to each other once again cause a spontaneous order phenomenon between them.The dots of lights emit a tone each time they blink. The tones can be heard continuously throughout the space; what sounds like music is solely created by the continuous tones produced by the blinking lights.
A spontaneous order phenomenon occurs when different rhythms influence each other and synchronize. Examples include when the pendulums of two clocks gradually begin to swing together; when many fireflies gather in one tree and all start blinking at the same time, creating a larger light as a whole; or when the cells that make up the heart synchronize and tremble simultaneously to create the pulse of the heart. This can be seen in various systems, from physical phenomena, neurophysiology, to ecosystems. Although the individual parts do not have the ability to observe the whole, the phenomenon of self-organization is the creation of an ordered and larger structure, resulting from the autonomous behavior of each individual part influencing each other. This phenomenon is also known as spontaneous order.
It is believed that entropy (a measurement of the lack of order in a system) in the universe will steadily increase (the law of increasing entropy) and that entities with form eventually collapse. Despite that, it is a wonder that the sun was created and the planets were born, that life was formed and societies exist. However, the reason why the universe, life, nature, and society continue to be maintained in spite of this may be because order is continuously formed on its own through the shared phenomenon of self-organization in the midst of disorder. In other words, the universe and our own existence are a continuous order created by the same phenomenon.

Inverted Globe Graffiti Nature - Red List

All the various creatures drawn by everyone live in the inverted globe. Color in a creature on the paper provided, and see the picture you have drawn come to life and move in front of you.
Living things eat and are eaten by other living things in one shared ecosystem.The creature you draw will multiply if they eat other living things, but they will die and disappear if they do not eat enough, or if they are eaten by other creatures.
The salamanders eat the snakes, the snakes eat the lizards, the lizards eat the frogs, and the frogs eat the butterflies, each one propagating as they consume. Likewise, the butterflies multiply in places where flowers grow.Although flowers will bloom if people stay still, their petals will scatter if people walk around and step on them. Salamanders will die if you step on them too much. 
Living creatures spread throughout the world, increasing and decreasing in number. The creatures you have drawn may be increasing somewhere. See if you can find it.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List is a database of the conservation status of biological species. Wildlife assessed in the Red List, including threatened and endangered species, appear in this work.

Multi Jumping Universe

Multi Jumping is a flexible surface that multiple people can jump on at the same time, and sink or jump higher than usual. 
When you stand on Multi Jumping, the surface beneath your feet sinks, creating warps in space and time. This distortion attracts stardust from the universe and births new stars. If you continue to jump on a star, the star will grow. When the life of the star ends, it returns to stardust and becomes the building blocks of new stars.A gigantic and heavy star will eventually become a black hole that swallows up all the surrounding stars and stardust.

Sketch Waterfall Droplets, Little Drops Cause Large Movement

This waterfall is created from the water droplets drawn by people.

Color in a droplet on the paper provided. See the picture you have drawn become one of the many water droplets that make up the waterfall in front of you. Before long, your droplet will mix with the droplets drawn by other people. The falling water droplets will flow down to the bottom of the Graffiti Nature terrain.

When just one droplet splashes it bounces like a ball, but when people use their entire body to gather and collect the droplets, they act like water.

A water molecule on its own is not liquid. In order for water to be a liquid, many water molecules must come together.
Because water molecules act like magnets, they stick to each other, forming a group of water molecules (a water cluster). Water clusters have an extremely short lifespan and are thought to be constantly being created and broken apart. They have a very dynamic structure and because of that, water can change into various forms.

Most living things and objects in this world, through properties that are more than the simple sum of the properties of their parts, appear as a whole.

All the various fish drawn by everyone swim around in this ocean.

Color in a fish on the paper provided and see the picture you have colored come to life, swimming out into the ocean in front of you together with fish drawn by other people. If you touch the fish, they will swim away. You can also feed the fish by touching the food bags.

Sometimes, the fish leave the room, transcend the boundaries between artworks, and begin to swim through the museum.

The tuna transcend the physical boundaries of the museum and swim out into the Sketch Ocean or Sketch Aquarium: Connected World artworks in other exhibitions. Similarly, tuna drawn in other exhibitions may appear and swim into the Sketch Ocean right in front of you.

Sliding through the Fruit Field

This is a slide where fruit grows.
You become the sunlight and slide down the slope. When your body collides with the water balls and honey bee balls, your energy will be transferred to them, and they will go flying off in all directions. When the balls collide with the fruit, the fruit will begin to grow.
Each ball has a different role depending on its color.
A light blue ball represents water: when this ball hits the seeds, they sprout, bud, and blossom. When a yellow honey bee ball hits the flowers, they are pollinated, and the flowers become fruit. When the fruit is hit by a ball, new seeds are sown, leading to new life.

Flowers Bloom in an Infinite Universe inside a Teacup

عندما يتم تحضير فنجان شاي، تتفتح الأزهار داخل الفنجان، وعندما يتم رفع الفنجان، تنتشر بتلات الأزهار وتنتشر خارجه. والأزهار تزهر بلا حدود طالما هناك شاي، ويصبح الشاي في الفنجان عالمًا لانهائيًا تزهر فيه الأزهار باستمرار. اشرب عالمًا متسع بلا نهاية.

When Frozen Green Tea is placed on the table, tea branches grow from it.As you move the Frozen Green Tea, the branches wither and grow again in a new place.When the frozen tea disappears, the tea branches also wither and disappear.
Butterflies are born from the tea branches. These butterflies fly to the flowers blooming inside people’s teacups.Flowers bloom from tea branches around the end of autumn. The artwork is forever changing and the picture at this moment can never be seen again.

Enso - Cold Light

Enso is the Zen practice of drawing a circle with a single brushstroke. This artwork depicts enso drawn as Spatial Calligraphy. The brushstroke is suspended in space, but there are moments when its circular shape is revealed as the brushstroke rotates and shifts the viewpoint.

Spatial Calligraphy is a form of calligraphy drawn in space that teamLab has been exploring since it was founded. The artwork reconstructs calligraphy in three-dimensional space to express the depth, speed, and power of the brushstroke, and that calligraphy is then flattened using the logical structure of space teamLab calls Ultrasubjective Space. The calligraphy shifts between two and three dimensions.

Back in ancient times, enso was drawn in space using sticks, to symbolize the concepts of enlightenment, truth, the universe, and equality, in a figurative manner. The circle is also a reflection of the viewer’s inner self, thus its interpretation depends on the viewer.

Reversible Rotation - Black in White

The Spatial Calligraphy in this artwork space rotates in the same direction, but because of the characteristics of Ultrasubjective Space, visually, the clockwise and counterclockwise rotation are logically equivalent. Hence, the work can appear to be rotating in either direction depending on how the viewer chooses to look at it.
Spatial Calligraphy is a form of calligraphy drawn in space that teamLab has been exploring since it was founded. The artwork reconstructs calligraphy in three-dimensional space to express the depth, speed, and power of the brush stroke, and that calligraphy is then flattened using the logical structure of space that teamLab calls Ultrasubjective Space. The calligraphy shifts between two and three dimensions.

حول تيم لاب

"تيم لاب" هو عبارة عن مجموعة فنيّة عالمية (تأسست عام 2001)، يتم التعاون فيها بهدف التعمّق في نقاط الالتقاء بين الفن والعلوم والتكنولوجيا والعالم الطبيعي. فعبر الأعمال الفنيّة، تهدف مجموعة من الخبراء ذوي الاختصاصات المختلفة، بمن فيهم فنانين ومبرمجين ومهندسين، وأخصائي رسوم متحركة، وعلماء رياضيات ومهندسين معماريين، إلى استكشاف العلاقة بين الذات والعالم وأشكال جديدة من الإدراك.

وفي محاولة إلى فهم العالم حولهم، يسعى الناس إلى فصله إلى وحدات مستقلة يتصوّرون حدودًا في ما بينها. ولكن "تيم لاب" يسعى إلى تجاوز هذه الحدود التي تحدّ رؤيتنا ونظرتنا إلى العالم وإلى العلاقة بين الذات والعالم واستمرارية الزمن. فكل شيء قائم في استمرارية بلا حدود، في استمرارية مستدامة وهشّة وخارقة في آن واحد.
